When I receive the body and blood of Our Lord Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament of the Eucharist; I cannot help but admire his mother, for her surrender to God was total. She gave her very flesh, the flesh that became Jesus in her womb. The child that she loved and nurtured, disciplined and shed tears over.
Because her giving was without reserve, she accepted God's will as it unfolded for her; always mindful of the prophecies foretold concerning the humiliating and shameful death her son would suffer for the salvation of the world ~ "pondering these things in her heart".
Thank you mother, whose charity for God and man is so great, you reserved nothing for yourself, suffering even the human loss of your son for our sake.
